At the Google I/O conference, the company announced that Gemini artificial intelligence technology has been integrated into the Gmail mail service. AI will be able to answer user questions, provide canned answers, and also perform routine tasks in the background.

Gmail is probably the most popular web-based email interface in the world. However, even such a useful service may have its drawbacks, associated with the fact that working with large volumes of letters and attachments can be quite chaotic and time-consuming.

To solve this problem, Google engineers decided to integrate the Gemini artificial intelligence system into Gmail. The system will be able to analyze the content of letters, extract important information and even formulate response options. According to Google Vice President Aparna Pappu (Aparna Pappu), Gemini is able to do all the “hard work” of structuring chaotic email flows.

One of the key features of AI is the ability to ask questions directly in email threads. For example, the user can ask the system how the cost of a particular project mentioned in the correspondence is quoted. Gemini will analyze the relevant letters and give an accurate response.

Another useful function is the automatic comparison of competing commercial offers from different companies and the creation of their consolidated tables. Gemini can independently create such tables based on data obtained from letters.

In addition, artificial intelligence will save users from the need to manually process a large number of attachments coming to letters and organize them in the Google Drive cloud storage, creating consolidated tables from them. These can be invoices, checks and other attachments.

Finally, Google announced the integration into Gmail of personal chatbots that will be able to search for information and solve tasks at the request of users in various Google services such as mail, cloud storage and others. According to the developers, all these innovations will make working with e-mail more efficient and enjoyable, eliminating monotonous routine operations.

At the same time, Gemini’s integration into Gmail will not happen immediately. First, the new features will appear in Google Labs’ testing mode (this fall). But the general public will only be able to enjoy the benefits of AI in Gmail by the end of 2024, or even later. At the same time, access to Gemini’s advanced features will be paid and will cost $19.95 per month for each user under the Google AI Premium subscription.
