Meta is discontinuing business communications platform Facebook Workplace to focus more on AI developments and Metaverse technologies.
The little brother of Slack and Microsoft Teams is closing its books. Workplace was created as Facebook’s new business communications platform, but seems to have missed the boat. On Tuesday, Meta announced that it was shutting down Facebook Workplace to focus more on AI developments and Metaverse technologies.
The business communication platform Facebook Workplace was created in 2016 as the little brother of Slack and Microsoft Teams. With Workplace, Meta wanted to create an environment within Facebook where employees from different organizations could work together in shared spaces.
“We are leaving Workplace to focus on developing AI and metaverse technologies that we believe will fundamentally change the way we work. “Over the next two years, we will offer our Workplace customers the option to migrate to Zoom’s Workvivo product, Meta’s only preferred migration partner,” a Meta spokesperson said.
Users will have access to the application until August 2025, and it will officially close to customers from June 2026. Meta itself will continue to use Workplace for its internal message board.
