Nintendo isn’t the only one interested in using NVIDIA GPUs integrated into SoCs to create gaming products. According to new information, the market is experiencing significant growth around portable PC-type consoles, and remarkable growth is also expected in the AI PC market, where SoCs with AI capabilities will be key.

With this panorama, MediaTek and NVIDIA decided to work together to develop new gaming SoCs. a completely logical stepand it honestly seems very accurate to me. The information is divided into two parts, firstly we have rumors saying that both companies are working on a PC SoC that will have a maximum price of $300 and that will compete with the Apple Snapdragon Elite and the M series.

Second, we have additional, more recent information that ensures that NVIDIA and MediaTek are also working on SoCs for portable consoles. This chip will use a Integrated NVIDIA GPU and ARM CPUalthough the specs are unknown at this point, so we don’t know what architectures would be chosen to power said chip.

It’s possible, from what I’ve read after digging a little deeper into the subject, that NVIDIA and MediaTek are preparing to launch their own portable console, which would undoubtedly be a bomb, although it would arrive under the seal of MediaTek as for obvious reasons honoring NVIDIA GPU integration.

This console may be more advanced than the Nintendo Switch 2 in terms of hardware, as it has been rumored that Nintendo will eventually opted for a custom Tegra SoC with a less powerful GPU than NVIDIA can actually offer, and based on Ampere instead of Ada Lovelace. This decision was due to a simple cost issue, that is, the big N opted for the cheapest chip to reduce the production costs of their new console.

We’ll see what comes of it all, but the truth is that a portable console with Ada Lovelace GPU that offers NVIDIA DLSS 3.5 technology could break the market. Think of the potential it would have with Super Resolution and Frame Generation and the experience it could create with a 1080p screen.

Both MediaTek and NVIDIA can offer more information about this collaboration and this console project, at Computexso we’ll keep you posted on any details that emerge.
