I have been using Wallapop practically since the platform was born. At that time everything was going through Milanuncios and the previous one known as Segundamano. Communication wasn’t very smooth, there wasn’t a lot of information about sales profiles, and it was much easier to fall into negative deals.

Although it is a fairly recurring scam, with Wallapop it is much easier to know (believe) whether a profile is trustworthy or not. Something unfortunately born out of Wallapop’s attempt to protect buyers: Wallapay. Today I will tell you why I never use this shipping method and what the most common scams are.

How does Wallapay work?

Wallapay arrived seven years ago as Wallapop’s own shipping system. The point here is to focus on the buyer’s security, leaving the buyer somewhat unprotected. Because?

First of all, when someone buys something through Wallapay, This money is held by Wallapop itself. Payment is made within 24 to 48 hours after the buyer confirms the order is in good condition.

Also, buying through Wallapay is much more expensive than buying without Wallapay. Wallapop adds protection insurance at a price that varies depending on the product we purchase. For example, if we want to buy a console for 520 euros, the final amount will be 567.18 euros (39.69 euros for “Wallapop protection”, 7.49 euros for shipping and 520 euros for the product).

This additional payment is Wallapop’s guarantee to us (and the commission it receives) that if the product does not arrive in the described conditions, the company takes responsibility and guarantees that it will not cost us anything to return the product. Problem? What will happen to sellers?

Wallapay scam

When you search for “Wallapay” on Google, the first autocomplete result is “scam”; This is a big clue as to how this platform is being misused. A recent example was given to us by user X, HaIt pretty clearly details one of the most common scams: the key.

  • We offered a product for sale.
  • The buyer purchases it through Wallapay.
  • The process completes normally.
  • We received a message from the buyer that the item is in bad condition.
  • Their plan is to keep the money and replace it with an identical but lower value item.

This is a very, very sensitive situation. If we accept the dispute and the buyer does not want the product, nothing prevents him from sending us the same product but in worse condition. We would take our product back but we would keep the change.

This scam is one of the mildest scams. If we have not well documented how, when and in what condition we sent the product, nothing prevents the buyer from notifying Wallapop that he received a completely different product, broken or broken. an empty box.

There are as many ways to run a Wallapay scam as the recipient wants to be creative, which is why I have completely banned it since the birth of this solution.

How can I sell with cargo?

The best guarantee a seller has to secure is…reviews. It’s not the fairest scale for new sellers, but that’s how secondhand works. In my particular case, I am very clear on how I should proceed if someone asks me to send them an item.

  • Shipping price is negotiable. If it is a very expensive product, I usually give it as a gift.
  • I provide all my personal information (only if I determine they are trustworthy) to give the buyer peace of mind.
  • The buyer pays me using the agreed payment method (always other than Wallapay)
  • I ship same day 24 hours a day (whether it is insured or not depends on the terms we agree on).

It’s cheaper for the buyer than buying through Wallapay, they receive the item within 24 hours (Wallapop uses the Post Office and it usually takes much longer) and I get another sale with the corresponding rating.
