Fortinet expands FortiAI capabilities. The company’s generative AI assistant will better support teams in both managing the network and securing it.

Fortinet is improving its generative AI assistant FortiAI. Launched last year, FortiAI can be seen as a type of ChatGPT tailored for security specialists. The tool supports SecOps and NetOps teams with advice and insights into the network and its configuration.

Network management

Fortinet is committed to faster Day 0 and Day 1 processes. The addition of FortiAI’s new features to FortiManager streamlines the Day 0 and Day 1 configuration and deployment processes through scripting in CLI and Jinja using GenAI.

Users can have scripts generated by giving FortiAI instructions in human language. This makes scripting accessible to employees with different programming skills.

FortiAI also offers a feature that checks code for errors and suggests adjustments. This streamlines the programming process and increases the reliability of configuration scripts. Fortinet provides an example of a question users can ask FortiAI: “Can you help me with BGP configuration on the FortiGate?”

In addition, the solution is intended to improve visibility in the Day 2 phase and help eliminate vulnerabilities in IoT applications. This is possible with the addition of FortiAI to FortiManager. This ensures that users can identify and resolve vulnerabilities in IoT applications.

According to Fortinet, this new GenAI IoT Security Assistant is the only solution of its kind. Network security experts can instruct FortiAI in natural language to create a complete overview of all vulnerabilities. They can then ask the assistant for more information, such as severity and potential impact, and adopt FortiAI’s practical recommendations to resolve security issues more quickly. Fortinet illustrates this again with an example question: “Show me a list of all critical vulnerabilities and the affected devices for each vulnerability.”

Security

In addition, the security specialist improves the detection and analysis of cyber threats. This is done through new dictation features for a tighter integration of FortiAI with FortiAnalyzer. According to Fortinet, the closer collaboration between these two solutions makes it easier to detect fraud, analyze events, search for data and create reports.

Regardless of their level of knowledge, security analysts can hire FortiAI to scan data sets for cyber threats. After analyzing the results, they can take security measures to neutralize any threats. A third example provides clarity: “Analyze the latest security event, provide a detailed summary, assess the potential impact, and suggest appropriate remedial action.”
