Twitter has officially moved to the X.com domain

Elon Musk began rebranding social platform Twitter a year ago. First, he changed the name and logo of the social network to X. Now the social network has officially moved from its old address, twitter.com, to a new URL – x.com. Musk himself announced this on page X.


Twitter was renamed X in July 2023, but the site’s address remained unchanged, with the x.com domain redirecting users to twitter.com. Visitors to the Twitter.com page are now redirected to the main x.com page, where they encounter the following message:

“Welcome to x.com! Our URL has changed, but your privacy and data protection settings remain the same”.

Changes had also been made to other Twitter-related services before. Tweetdeck was renamed XPro and Twitter Blue became X Premium.

Mask has a long history with the x.com domain. He opened his second business under this name in 1999 (the first was Zip2, which he sold to Compaq in 1999). Just a year later, X.com merged with money transfer service Cofinity. This service was called PayPal. Musk served as CEO of the combined organization for several months but left his position due to disagreements with other executives. Initially, the combined business was called X.com, but in 2001, after a detailed analysis of customer feedback, the company was renamed PayPal. In 2002, PayPal was acquired by Ebay Inc. was purchased by. This transaction earned Musk $165 million. In 2017, Musk purchased the x.com domain name.
