Toyota has decided on a completely new Hilux pickup truck with a power plant: the car will go into series production. Toyota Motor Asia Deputy General Manager Pras Ganesh told Reuters that the Hilux REVO BEV (as the prototype is now called) will hit the assembly line by the end of 2025.
Thailand was not chosen by chance: pickup trucks account for more than 50% of all car sales in the country. This is why the electric Isuzu D-MAX BEV has been launched in Thailand and the Hilux REVO BEV will also compete with it.
Pras Ganesh did not go into technical details; only that the range of the Hilux REVO BEV will be around 200 km (same range as the Isuzu D-MAX BEV). Autonomy is small, but here the automaker must balance power reserve and payload capacity. What the greater the range, the more batteries you need to install. This means that the car also becomes significantly heavier and therefore its payload will be much lessPras Ganesh said.
Pre-production Toyota Hilux Revo has already been converted into minibuses in Thailand: the capacity of the pickup’s traction battery is 71.4 kWh.
