Dell relies on the Snapdragon X processors and is the first manufacturer to announce five laptops with the ARM-based processor under the hood.
Dell is introducing five new interesting laptops based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X processors. These ARM-based CPUs have been on the rise for some time now. The chips are said to be more economical and more powerful than x86 alternatives from Intel and should finally trigger the ARM revolution for Windows. Despite controversy over the benchmarks, Qualcomm essentially promises that its new CPUs will bring some sort of Apple M-chip experience to the laptop. After a long wait for news, Dell is now taking the lead.

The Dell XPS 13 will start at $1,299 and the Inspiron 14 Plus will start at $1,099. The devices will hit shelves “later this year.” Laptop prices and availability are currently based on US data. Details about Belgium are missing, but the devices are also coming to Europe.
It’s notable that Dell uses ARM across its entire portfolio, from the more entry-level Latitude series to the premium XPS series. Dell itself claims that the laptops are “exceptionally” fast and have excellent endurance.
The efficiency of the Snapdragon X chips should ensure that they can last a whole day on a single battery charge. In initial tests, the manufacturer assumes an autonomy of 27 hours. The chip also enables slim designs: the Latitude laptops are considered the slimmest in their series.
AI is of course the focus of the announcement. Dell wants to play a major role in the AI ecosystem and these computers are part of it. We hear references to the AI gospel as “AI PCs” according to Gelsinger and “AI factories” according to Huang.
There is a lot of focus at launch on the AI processing power of these new laptops, which deliver 45 TOPS with the NPU integrated into the Qualcomm Snapdragon and actually doesn’t have much of an impact on the performance of the laptop when used for traditional office work. In the future, interesting AI features will be possible as the NPU is powerful enough to run generative AI models locally.
Dell claims that professionals will be more focused in some undefined way thanks to these AI capabilities. In this case, hopefully these professionals won’t be distracted by the brand new AI key that needs to be integrated into the keyboard.
The relevance of the laptops depends on how Microsoft will use the ARM ecosystem with Windows 11. Windows on ARM has been around for years, but until now it has been poorly treated. This could now change with the introduction of the Snapdragon X laptops, although Dell cannot yet say exactly how.
