In fantasy literature from the late 19th century, the idea of cryogenically freezing a person waking up a hundred years into the future appears. Maybe soon this technology will become a reality. Researchers from Fudan University in Shanghai have reported a breakthrough in the field of cryogenic freezing of brain tissue.
According to British publication MirrorIn experiments, scientists used human embryonic stem cells to grow brain samples for three weeks; This was enough time for the neurons and nerve cells to become functional.
The samples were then impregnated with various chemical mixtures for cryogenic freezing in liquid nitrogen for one day. After two weeks of freezing, the researchers found that one of the mixtures kept the neurons intact and still able to send signals.
There is now hope that one day the science of cryogenics may live up to the expectations of science fiction fans, where people can be frozen indefinitely and revived years later.
