Microsoft introduces AI-based “Advanced Pasting” and makes File Explorer smarter with native versioning.

Microsoft Build 2024 introduced many new AI features, including Advanced Paste and native version control in Explorer. The new paste feature allows users to select the format in which they want to paste their copied content from the clipboard. For example, developers may choose to paste code copied in one language into another programming language, which only speeds up the process. Additionally, Microsoft is adding native versioning to its Explorer and enabling 7-Zip compression. The new features are available for Windows 11.

Advanced Insertion

The new Advanced Paste feature for Windows 11 allows users to paste copied content the way they want using AI. This feature was included in PowerToys version 0.81. Once enabled, you can enable this feature using the following key command: Windows Key + Shift + V. After that, an expanded window will appear with options to paste conversions.

Microsoft – Advanced Insert

In the advanced settings you can enable “Insert with AI” and you will also see an OpenAI prompt. Here you can enter the desired conversion such as translations, generated code, JSON, Yoda syntax and more. Unfortunately the function is not free. To activate this, you must add an OpenAI API key in PowerToys and purchase credit for your OpenAI account.

Explorer improved

In addition, Microsoft is now adding native version control to Explorer by integrating systems like Git. This allows you to see new changes and comments directly in the app. Additionally, Microsoft would also allow File Explorer to compress files natively in 7-zip and TAR. The announcements are part of Microsoft Build 2024.
