Microsoft used the BUILD conference to announce how it plans to take its AI assistant Copilot beyond individual tasks. After the initial release focused on users being able to use Copilot on their own, the assistant now focuses on teamwork. AI in particular is an important member of Teams.

Because this is important. With Team Copilot, the productivity, creativity and time-saving advantages offered by Copilot are valid not only for individuals but also for corporate teams. The purpose of artificial intelligence is to be an excellent assistant for improving collaborative tasks and agility in project management.

new abilities. According to Microsoft, Team Copilot will have different roles:

• Make meetings easier by managing the agenda and taking notes that any participant can edit.
• Manage groups and summarize relevant information in comprehensive Teams chats, including answering team questions.
• Manage projects by providing Planner flows as you create and assign tasks, track deadlines, or notify a member when their input is needed.
• These features will be available in preview later this year for customers who license Copilot for Microsoft 365.

big bet. Microsoft wants to free teams from more administrative tasks that consume time and resources, so they can focus on productive and creative matters.

The promise is attractive: This poses the scenario of arriving at a meeting in Teams where Copilot already has the agenda ready, taking notes for us and even answering simple questions. Or open a project in Planner where tasks are already created, assigned, and due dates are tracked.

money trail. Microsoft sees Team Copilot as an opportunity to turn this increased efficiency into measurable results. In other words, automation of processes and facilitating collaboration means measurable efficiency and savings for companies.

Future. Team Copilot is a first look at how Microsoft is proposing a future of teamwork marked by artificial intelligence that now not only assists members independently but also actively participates in the company’s own procedures.

How will this develop? Time will tell, but it points to a workplace where AI is a ubiquitous and superficial presence that helps by making small decisions and dealing with red tape to free workers from the red tape.
