Adobe is adding some new generative AI tools to Lightroom that are designed to make the photo editing platform more user-friendly for both professionals and novice creatives.
Lightroom gets a new useful feature in its toolbox, Generative Remove, powered by Adobe Firefly. With this feature, users can easily remove objects or people from their image by coloring them and the AI will fill these objects with a believable background. Additionally, a new AI-powered Lens Blur tool is now generally available to all Lightroom users to easily apply blur effects to selected parts of an image.
Generative removal
Removing unwanted objects or people from an image used to be a complex process that professional creatives in particular were familiar with. With the new Generative Remove, Adobe wants to make its photo editing platform more accessible to everyone.
This feature of Adobe Firefly lets you remove unwanted objects or people from the background in just a few clicks. This can be done simply by coloring the object, which is then filled with a believable background by the AI.
This easy-to-use tool is currently free to use during beta, but a subscription is required afterward. Generative Remove is available for Lightroom, Lightroom Classic, Lightroom for mobile (iOS and Android), Lightroom for web, and Adobe Camera Raw. Access to the new feature is only available with Lightroom and Lightroom Classic version 7.3 or Lightroom Mobile version 9.3.
Lens blur
A second new AI-powered feature in Lightroom is Lens Blur. It allows users to apply different blur effects to specific parts of an image with just a few clicks. The feature can automatically estimate the depth of field of view to make background sharpness appear as natural as possible.
Adobe Lightroom – Lens Blur
Lens Blur comes in the form of a filter where users can apply an automated preset but also change the parameters themselves to achieve the desired result. This feature is now available to all Lightroom users.
