Microsoft announces Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024. The new version supports smoother wireless connectivity between IoT devices and the execution of x64 applications.

Microsoft announces a brand new version of Windows 11 IoT Enterprise, a version of Windows designed for IoT devices to provide users and manufacturers with a trusted software environment. The first version of Windows 11 IoT Enterprise was released around the same time as the desktop version. The new version is called Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024.

Tailored for IoT

The update brings Windows 11 development capabilities to an IoT environment. The number of pluggable packages increases to 36, allowing IoT device manufacturers to further customize the operating system. Devices can also now connect and project wirelessly more smoothly when running the same version and x64 applications on an Arm-based processor.

Microsoft is not only working behind the scenes, but also on the user interface of Windows IoT Enterprise. The updated interface adopts recognizable elements from the desktop version of Windows, such as the taskbar overflow menu and tabs in Explorer. Accessibility will also be improved with the introduction of live closed captioning, voice access and Braille input.

Finally, security and management were also taken into account. Microsoft introduces a revamped security dashboard with quick access to antivirus, firewall and network security features. Like Windows PCs, IoT devices are now updated monthly. Intune is the central device management application. You can find the complete functional overview here.

10 years of support

Windows 11 IoT Enterprise will receive support for ten years, until 2034. If you want to upgrade to the latest version, you must completely renew the license.
