The search engine Bing has been experiencing an outage since this morning. Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT and DuckDuckGo share the same problem.
Anyone browsing to the Bing search engine will see a message saying that the search engine is temporarily unavailable. According to reports from DownDetector, the problems began around 8am this morning and therefore lasted for several hours. Search results would not load and now Microsoft seems to have even taken Bing offline completely to resolve the issues.
Not just Bing
The Bing outage doesn’t just affect the search engine. The Bing API is also down, meaning services that use Bing’s search index will also temporarily not work. This affects the web search functions of ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot.
ChatGPT is temporarily unable to perform searches.
The AI assistants therefore have to rely on their existing knowledge for the time being and cannot carry out searches for you. Competing search engines that use the Bing API are also affected by the outage, including DuckDuckGo.
Microsoft is currently working on a solution. Much information is unknown about what caused the outage and when Bing and its related services will be fully functional again. We will update this article with the latest information later.
