Microsoft is turning Copilot into a Windows application that appears on your Start screen.
According to a blog post, Microsoft plans to integrate Copilot into a standalone application in Windows to seamlessly integrate it into daily AI-driven support workflows. The application disappears in the middle of your screen, providing a true app experience. Microsoft will announce the phased rollout of this Copilot update in a phased manner.
Currently, users find Copilot in the form of an icon in the bottom right of the window. Microsoft now plans to roll out a new upgrade in which the AI assistant will appear in the form of an application in the middle of the Windows taskbar.
“With this change, Copilot users will get the benefits of a traditional app experience, such as resizing, clicking, and moving the window. This change opens up new potential for Copilot. It opens the possibility for more immersive experiences and allows users to seamlessly interact with generative AI in Windows,” writes Harjit Dhaliwal, senior product marketing manager for Windows Commercial at Microsoft.
Users who will soon have a Copilot+ PC will be able to activate Copilot with a single click of the Copilot button on the keyboard.
For users who have enabled Copilot in Windows (in preview) for devices running Windows 11, version 22H2, Copilot smoothly switches from the notification area to the taskbar. If you have not activated Copilot via the controller, Copilot remains deactivated by default. Users can also purchase the Copilot app later from the Microsoft Store.
