On May 19, experts from the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration received data from two of the four operating scientific instruments of the Voyager 1 spacecraft (Voyager 1) for the first time since last November.

Normal operation of the probe, launched 46 years ago, was interrupted in 2023 when Voyager 1 began sending a pattern of ones and zeros to Earth.

Because the device was more than 24 billion kilometers away from our planet, it took engineers a long time to solve the problem: A message from Earth took more than 22 and a half hours to reach the probe and the same amount of time to respond. To return to Flight Control Center. Experts determined that about 3% of Voyager 1’s working memory was corrupted, but they managed to rewrite the probe’s software to prevent the corrupted memory from being used.

In April, Voyager 1 sent accurate data on the status of its onboard engineering systems, and in response to a request sent on May 17, the spacecraft sent data from its magnetometer and plasma environment instrument to Earth. The probe’s remaining two active scientific instruments will undergo calibration in the near future and return to full-fledged scientific work as engineers planned.
