Editing messages is perhaps the most important innovation since Twitter’s launch. It has become such a popular request among users that it has become a kind of internal meme. The company even joked that it works to implement the feature on April 1 of every year. There was such a tweet this year as well. However, it was no longer a joke.

Recall briefly that the earlier Japanese developer, Jane Manchun Wong, said that tweets would remain “unchanged” even with the introduction of the “edit tweet” functionality. Instead of editing the first tweet, the platform will create a new tweet with a different ID. It’s unclear whether it will stay with the same airtime or be considered “fair” creations. Such an “edit” is likely to wipe out all likes and retweets, but for now that’s just a guess. The original tweet and previous changes made by the user will be saved – you will probably need to select a custom menu item that will reflect the process of modifying the message as currently implemented on Facebook.

• Now there is new information. This time from app developer Nimi Ouji. Judging by the screenshots, Twitter will add a timer.
• The screenshot itself, it should be noted, raises some questions. The picture shows a timer set to 30 minutes. The author doesn’t say whether this is the deadline for users to edit, but writes that the timer “appears when you edit a tweet.” However, not even a second passed on his counter. It should take at least a few seconds to post a tweet, open it, start editing, and take a screenshot.
• It can be assumed that the timer started showing on the first tweet and only after it was posted, but in the post edit window in Nima Ouji’s screenshot, the post button is called Update. Now when tweeting from scratch it’s called Tweeting. So he started editing.

• So there are two options: either the social network gives more than 30 minutes, and Ouji accidentally “caught” a timer at 30:00, or his image is some kind of stub designed to show how everything will look.

You cannot like, retweet, or reply to the original version of the Tweet. The interaction will only be available with the new version of the tweet, but the old one will remain.
