Firefox is preparing important productivity improvements to compete with Chrome

It has been common for a long time that with each new version of Firefox, the browser presents itself little news and generally little important. There are exceptions, of course, but that’s the rule and not something that in itself justifies the six-week release cadence shared by most Chromium derivatives, which is where most of the innovation has been born in recent years.

Just look at what each new version of Firefox brings and compare it to what’s in Microsoft Edge, Vivaldi and even Brave. Why is Firefox taking it so easy when what it seems to be doing is just the opposite? Does Firefox already have everything that the average user expects from a current browser? Of course it will depend on who you ask.

In general, Firefox is a fairly complete alternative in terms of features, although it lacks some of them They have practically become a standard in their category. For example, support for web applications (read WPA), which Mozilla removed only in the PC version of the browser, it is not clear why. Inconsequential decision and not the first, but…

But the truth is that this is not the only popular feature that Firefox is missing. However, things are coming and they are really interesting… for fox browser users, of course. Of the most notable, Community Manager Firefox in a message posted on the Mozilla forums and includes:

  • Card groups and vertical cards and although the latter is debatable because there are extensions that complement the said function, the former is indisputable, a productivity function shared by all Chromium derivatives.
  • New profile management systemsomething that Firefox has never done a decent job of, and a bug that it looks like it will fix once and for all.

These are not the only new features Mozilla is preparing for Firefox, but they are by far the most relevant. Others less significant, but certainly welcome browser users include a new bookmark page customization that can easily change the background image; among other things, simplifying privacy preferences or optimizing the application menu.

No doubt very good news for Firefox users… and other browsers as the competition drives innovation. From this follows what has happened recently in the field of Chromium (we are talking about Chrome, but also about Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi…), and that, no matter how much it is repeated, it is not true that everything , which comes from the Google project, must be the same. Not at all.

In all this, it should be noted that although Firefox suffers from features such as those mentioned, which do not put it in a good position compared to the competition, we must recognize its own merits, the added value of which is on the contrary lacking, e.g. the level of privacy (things like containers or cookie management should be standard, but only Firefox has them).
