Massachusetts Institute of Technology employees presented Momo, a self-assembled structure for human life on the moon.
Each Momo module consists of an aluminum frame and a high-density polyethylene membrane for radiation protection. Modules can be configured for different functions: for example, they can serve as a gateway, a warehouse or a temporary residence for astronauts.
The innovative shape – dodecahedron – provides modularity and compactness, facilitating rapid opening and collapsing of the capsule. Such an engineering solution not only facilitates the transportation of the module, but also allows its simple and reliable placement on the surface of the Earth’s natural satellite.
Momo is designed for the Artemis III lunar mission, scheduled for late 2026 or early 2027.
