A study by ServiceNow and Pearson shows that AI is helping to create jobs and increasing the demand for IT staff.

AI and other emerging technologies are having a significant impact on the workforce and the global skilled workforce, according to the Impact AI: 2024 Workforce Skills Forecast study by ServiceNow and Pearson. AI is helping to create jobs and increasing the demand for skilled IT staff.

Demand for talent

Despite automation, a global labor shortage persists. Productivity gains from new technologies prevent an even greater shortage. In the context of labor market growth, technical positions are an important driver of job growth. This indicates a strategic shift towards a technology and innovation-driven economy.

Technical staff

The study predicts an increase in demand for staff in most technical occupations, with the exception of sectors such as retail and financial services, where the number of technical occupations is declining. In growth industries, the number of IT employees is increasing. Economic growth provides sufficient opportunities for IT jobs to offset the decline in other industries.

Retraining is absolutely necessary

Last year, it became clear that more machine use leads to less monotonous work for people, allowing employees to focus on skills like critical thinking, interpersonal communication and creativity. This year, we looked at how much time automation can save customer service agents, which can be used for retraining.

Reskilling is necessary to meet the demand for tech talent. Proactively responding to the changing job market, lifelong learning and strategic workforce planning are critical for companies in the digital age.

“To be successful, companies must focus on the development, growth and well-being of their employees,” said Jacqui Canney, Chief People Officer at ServiceNow. “AI helps employees learn and grow through personalized experiences and provides companies with insights to evolve their businesses and employees.”
