I have to admit that this news about CD Projekt RED gives me mixed feelings, so let’s get to the news first, per se, and then the analysis. And the news is that as we can read in Wccftech, The popular Polish studio intends to intensify the pace of releases, i.e. more frequent publishing of games. Something that at first glance might sound like great news for game lovers.

We are also talking about official information, not leaks, specifically about statement by Michał Nowakowski, joint CEO of CD Projekt RED, in the company’s latest earnings presentation. A presentation in which he reviewed the developer’s recent past and present, focusing on how they were able to develop Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty (DLC, which, as stated several times, has the scope of almost a complete game ) while working on Polaris, the codename for the highly anticipated The Witcher 4.

After showing off the latest advances, Nowakowski states the following: «[…]so you can definitely expect us to release more titles and the release cadence is to some extent which we definitely plan to increasealthough of course I won’t comment on what the time span is between projects«. It’s always good news to know that a studio whose games are highly rated by users will release more and reduce wait times, right?

CD Projekt RED wants to publish more in less time

The truth is that unfortunately Recent history has taught us that this is not always the case., and it was CD Projekt RED in the past that was one of those responsible for the fact that we currently think this way. Today, we all know that Cyberpunk 2077 is an excellent rated game and since its launch, the developer has been doing a good job. But that shouldn’t forget what a debut this game was, and that if it’s managed to improve so much since then, it’s partly because its debut was somewhat embarrassing.

The worst thing that CD Projekt RED did with Cyberpunk 2077 was with the previous generation console versions of the game, yes, but we mustn’t forget that The game also arrived on PC quite green, with a good list of bugs, terrible mechanics and flaws on top of that elements that should have been in the game from the very beginning, such as the subway system. And the problem in these cases was not in the technical limitations of the platform (which happened with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One), but in the rush to bring it to market.

Don’t get me wrong, today Cyberpunk 2077 feels like a great game and I never tire of appreciating the good work CD Projekt RED has done to fix it. However, many of these problems could have been avoided if its launch had been delayed until everything was ready. Now I want to think the studio has learned its lesson, but statements like Nowakowski’s make me a bit concerned. I hope I’m wrong.
