Gartner expects the AI craze not to die down immediately. In 2024, sales of AI chips will increase by 33 percent, and by a further 30 percent in 2025.
Gartner predicts that revenue from the sale of AI chips will increase sharply again this year. Last year the counter stopped at 53 billion dollars, but this year the value will rise to 71.25 billion. The madness will not stop after this year either, because Gartner predicts a further increase of thirty percent to almost 92 billion dollars by 2025.
Gartner leaves open the tactical question of who will benefit from this revenue. The first thing we think of is Nvidia, of course. The company recently announced that it will step up its efforts to bring a new GPU architecture to market every year instead of every two years. Gartner’s positive outlook should motivate Nvidia even more, but the current quarterly figures will do the same.
But Gartner doesn’t believe Nvidia can claim the whole pie. AWS, Google, Microsoft, Meta and other major AI parties are now also developing their own chips to train and run the house models.
Using specially designed chips can significantly reduce the cost of delivering AI-based services to users. As the AI market shifts from model development to practical application, this trend will continue, says Gartner.
Gartner’s analysis also includes the already infamous “AI PC,” which is equipped with NPU to run AI workloads. Intel has been trying to start this term since the beginning of the year, but it was not until Microsoft announced Copilot Plus (with Qualcomm chips) that the official launch took place.
Gartner expects that one in five newly purchased PCs this year will fall under this label. From 2026 onwards, only AI PCs will be sold.
