GPD DUO is a novelty laptop with two screens from a Chinese company you’ll know for their compact gaming or desktop machines. Here, the company abandons the “mini” concept and proposes a spectacular hybrid.
If you liked the ASUS Zenbook DUO, the elite among the elite of dual-screen notebooks, which we had the opportunity to fully analyze (and enjoy) this month, you will like this GPD DUO, as its concept is quite similar. However, has a fundamental difference and this one claims to be “the world’s first dual-screen laptop”.
The explanation lies in the fact that compared to other hybrids (e.g. ASUS) the keyboard is not optional and is connected separately but it is part of the same design. This means it’s a complete laptop with a second screen added to it. The base that houses the keyboard serves as a counterweight to support two Samsung-supplied AM-OLED screens. Thanks to the second hinge, the second screen can be folded behind the main one and thus transformed into a tablet. Maximum versatility yes, in exchange for a somewhat chubby hybrid.
Both screens have a diagonal of o 13.3 inches. When folded, the device is the size of an A4 sheet of paper and takes up 18 inches when unfolded. In addition, they are multi-touch with 10 contact points and a stylus compatible with Microsoft’s Surface Pen and 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity.
GPD did not detail the internal hardware, but it will be sold as an IA PC, which means that with the exception of the new Snapdragon Specifically, it is rumored to use an AMD Ryzen 7 8840U processor, although we lack confirmation.
The GPD DUO seems to be a continuation of the GPD Pocket or P2 Max series of mini notebooks, but here on a larger scale in terms of size and technology with a second screen. It’s not aimed at gaming, but it does include an OCuLink port that lets you use current external graphics. We have already updated the price and availability.
