James Webb maps the possible future of the Large Magellanic Cloud

The orbiting infrared observatory “James Webb” took an image of the dwarf galaxy NGC 4449, located 12.5 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Canis Hound.

NGC 4449 is an irregularly shaped dwarf galaxy that has much in common with the Milky Way’s companion galaxy, the Large Magellanic Cloud (LLC).

Thanks to the images obtained by the space telescope, scientists will be able to learn what will happen to BMO in the future if this galaxy collides with the structure of the Milky Way and swallows it. According to researchers, this will inevitably happen after 2.5 billion years.

In NGC 4449, astronomers managed to image an image of active star formation. It is assumed that the cause of this process is the absorption of NGC 4449 by a smaller satellite galaxy.
