Asus introduced the updated ROG Ally X portable game console. This is also an improved version of ROG Ally. They’re asking $800 for the console, making it one of the most expensive among branded devices. It’s also essentially the same APU Ryzen Z1 Extreme, meaning the new ROG Ally X won’t be significantly faster than the regular ROG Ally.
The price increase is due to various improvements. First of all, the new set-top box was given 24 GB LPDDR5X-7500 memory. By itself, the increased volume is not very convenient, but the memory has become faster, which is very important for iGPU performance.
Secondly, Asus improved the control elements and rearranged the design so that memory cards do not fail due to overheating, as in the regular version of Ally. Thirdly, the SSD increased from 512 GB to 1 TB and an additional USB port appeared, and this is USB4.
The most important update is the battery. It uses a battery with a capacity of 80 Wh, which is double that of the original version of Ally. At the same time, the weight increased slightly, from 608 g to 678 g. As a result, the ROG Ally X has the largest battery, at least among similarly sized portable consoles, so it should offer record levels of autonomy. The new product will go on sale in July.
