Bulgaria will not give Ukraine the heavy weapons demanded by the Ukrainian Ambassador to Bulgaria, Vitaliy Moskalenko. This was announced by Bulgarian Prime Minister Kirill Petkov. According to the news of Sofia Globe, he referred to the parliament’s decision on military-technical assistance to Ukraine, adopted on 4 May.

“We will abide by the decision of the National Assembly.‘ said Petkov.

As it will be remembered, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Bulgaria formally addressed the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a request to provide weapons to combat Russian aggression. It was about howitzers and Soviet-style missile systems.

According to the decision of the Parliament cited by Kirill Petkov, the National Assembly authorized the Bulgarian Government to support Ukraine in the following areas:

• continue to support Ukraine’s EU membership hopes;
• provide assistance to citizens of Ukraine who have left the country because of the war;
• promoting the export of Ukrainian grain through the Bulgarian port of Varna;
• strengthening electricity and natural gas supplies, as well as energy cooperation in general;
• Repair of Ukrainian military equipment at Bulgarian enterprises;
• humanitarian aid, especially medicine, clothing and food.
