Following Google, Samsung, Huawei and many other Android OEMs that have already started rolling out a slew of AI features on their flagships, Apple may finally add some built-in and cloud-based AI features to iOS 18 for the iPhone 16 series. Apple’s AI strategy for iOS 18, known as Project Greymatter, includes a number of AI features that the company is integrating into its core apps and services, such as Safari, Notes, and Photos.

Along with the notification summary feature called “Greymatter Catch Up” that will allow users to listen to summaries of recent notifications via Siri, other new features will also be coming, such as AI photo editing and more.

iOS 18 Generative Playground may let you delete unwanted objects from images

We have previously mentioned the possibility of adding these two functions. But now we know more about how the photo editing feature might work. Apple is reportedly developing a new object deletion feature where generative AI recognizes an unwanted object, removes it, and fills the space with AI-generated content that surprisingly matches the surrounding environment. This is similar to what we’ve seen before on Pixel, Galaxy and Huawei devices.

Apple is reportedly developing an “internal program” called Generative Playground that will allow users to try out the aforementioned AI-powered photo editing feature. Can be integrated into iMessage for easy sharing. iOS 18 may also allow you to create personalized emojis.

iOS 18 will also introduce the ability to automatically create replies based on LLM, which will be smart enough to take into account factors like names, calendar events, locations, times, and more. Siri is also in the process of improving its text-to-speech functionality for more natural and fluid output and a better overall experience.

Notes app will also get some major improvements thanks to AI

The Notes app will also receive a major update with iOS 18 and macOS 15 to introduce AI text generation capabilities such as speech-to-text and summarization. Speaking of practical use cases, users will be able to record audio directly from the note-taking app, convert it to text, and summarize. Accessing information from an entire meeting or lecture can now be made easy on iPhone.

The company will announce what it has developed at the WWDC conference, which will be held between June 10-14.
