Ford Motor Company needs just two years to launch Level 3 Autopilot, which will allow drivers to take their eyes off the road and their hands off the steering wheel, Ford Motor Company CEO Jim Farley said in a recent interview. “We are very close to our goal,” he said.
He confirmed that prototypes already allow drivers to do this, but Level 3 autonomous driving technology needs to be tested extensively before it can be commercialized.
The vehicle will allow the driver to continue his work in certain scenarios: “Level 3 autonomous driving will allow you to use the vehicle as an office in a few years. You will be able to make conference calls and do various things.”
Ford’s autonomous driving system can currently operate at speeds of up to 130 km/h in clear weather: “It is difficult for cars to perform this task in heavy rain.”
