HPE and its subsidiary Aruba are joining forces to provide companies with private 5G networks. The network can be installed in less than thirty minutes.

HPE announces a private 5G offering together with its subsidiary Aruba Networking. This is the first visible result of another acquisition by HPE, namely that of the Italian company Athonet. This acquisition allows HPE Aruba to distinguish itself with a unique integration of Wi-Fi and private 5G services.

Private or Independent 5G is considered an important vector for industrial 5G applications. Companies get a virtual network that is isolated from the physical network, so they don’t have to share it with anyone. Private 5G can also provide connectivity in locations where Wi-Fi is not enough.

Networking in thirty minutes

The rollout of private 5G networks is progressing slowly, the telecommunications lobby group GSMA concluded in its report earlier this year that the rollout of private 5G networks is progressing slowly Status of 5GReport. HPE Aruba wants to give a boost by simplifying the installation process. The network specialist says its private 5G network can be up and running in thirty minutes.

“Enterprise and industrial customers are increasingly looking for wireless coverage in demanding environments, including large outdoor areas. The complexity of traditional private cellular network approaches has held them back,” said Stuart Strickland, CTO of HPE Aruba, in a press release.

hardware and software

Companies purchase the private 5G offering as a package, with HPE Aruba providing both the hardware and software. The network is based on a 5G core that processes user registrations, secures the connection, and optimizes speed. HPE ProLiant servers support the core in performing computations. Devices require a SIM card to connect: eSIM is supported by HPE Aruba.

The offering also includes software to manage the network. Features for setting up network devices, technical controls, account management and streaming 5G data to AI models are available. The software will be added to the Aruba Networking Central dashboard at a later date.

Interest in private 5G networks is also growing rapidly among Belgian organizations. After a difficult start, our country is gradually becoming a European leader in the deployment of industrial 5G.
