New CDR techniques such as biochar, improved rock erosion, direct air carbon capture and storage (DACCS) and bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS), contribute 1.3 million tons per year, less than 0.1% of the total. In fact, permanent methods account for only 0.6 million tons per year, less than 0.05% of the total.

We urgently need to expand a wide range of CDR techniques to address climate change in line with the Paris Agreement, say the authors. CDR has seen rapid growth in research, public awareness and startups. However now Many indicators show signs of slowing development.

While investment in CDR research and startups is being directed toward a growing variety of new techniques, Few of these methods are currently under the scrutiny of government policies and proposals to expand CDR.which represents only 1.1% of investments in climate technology startups.
