Location history is now called Routes and will be saved on the device for greater privacy

Google Maps will now store our location history or Routes, directly on our devices, locally. It’s an important change to give users more control over our data, as routes won’t be shared with Google servers in the cloud unless we want them to.

Now we will only be able to view our Routes directly from our mobile phone and not on the internet. This change will be available for all users very soon; We have to wait to receive email notification from Google.

In the body of the email we will find a link to the page to configure our preferences on our device. After following the steps on the screen, the data will be transferred to the device we have chosen, as explained on the Google support site.
