The Georgia Court of Appeals on Wednesday stayed the case indefinitely. the start of the trial of former US President Donald Trump for his alleged involvement in a criminal network that sought to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in that state.

Appeals court ruling rules Trump trial paralyzed until the panel of judges makes a decision whether Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis should be disqualified, CNN reported.

This comes after a Georgia judge found Appeal filed by tycoon and several defendants reconsider the decision not to remove Willis from the case against Trump due to a conflict of interest.

One of the defendants, Michael Roman, who was part of the former president’s campaign team, introduced motion to disqualify Willis for her romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wadewhom he hired for this task.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee asked Willis to remove Wade in mid-March realizing there was “the appearance of an inappropriate relationship” between them, although he ultimately left the prosecutor in charge, in a decision the defense called disappointing.

Willis confirmed that he had a “personal relationship” with Wade. but he denied any wrongdoing that would derail the case against Trump. McAfee largely agreed with this opinion, since Trump’s defense did not provide sufficient evidence that it could affect the trial.

Trump is accused along with 18 others of attempt to overturn the 2020 election results in the state of Georgia, although the former president maintained his innocence. The incident forced the tycoon to surrender to authorities at the Fulton County Jail, after which his photograph was published.
