DuckDuckGo is adding a new feature to its search engine: AI Chat. The feature gives you anonymous access to chatbots such as ChatGPT (GPT-3.5), Claude 3, LLama 3 and Mixtral. Since your conversations are anonymous, the content of your conversations is not used to train your data.

The AI ​​chat tool is accessible via the work ribbon in the search engine. click on Work and select a chatbot of your choice to start a conversation. DuckDuckGo AI Chat guarantees anonymity by connecting to the chatbot through DuckDuckGo’s IP address, so the conversation cannot be traced back to you. Conversations are not saved and with a simple click on the fire icon you can delete the content of an ongoing conversation.

AI Chat is completely free to use. DuckDuckGo has a daily limit that is not specified. There may also be a paid option with higher limits that also gives access to the most advanced models.

Negative impact on privacy

With AI Chat, DuckDuckGo aims to create an AI experience where users don’t have to worry about their privacy. According to a recent study, many (American) users have a negative perception of the impact of AI tools on their privacy, even though they use these tools on a daily basis.

“We believe people should be able to use the internet and other digital tools without feeling like they have to sacrifice their privacy,” the company wrote in a blog post.

DuckDuckGo also has its own AI applications for the search engine and browser. In March, it introduced AI-generated search results, which display longer text answers above classic search results, faster than Google with AI Overview, which has already attracted attention for its strange answers.
