Apple will introduce its own password manager at WWDC

Apple Passwords will be one of the new applications that the Cupertino company will present at the global developer conference WWDC 2024. The service will work with iCloud Keychain and will compete with commercial password managers such as 1Password, LastPass or Bitwarden, as reported exclusively by Bloomberg.

Unfortunately, Apple does not participate in any global fairs and relies on its own events to promote its products. Next week celebrates the most important of the entire annual calendar. Even a giant like Apple cannot escape the current great technology trend, artificial intelligence and the integration of functions throughout its software portfolio promises to be the protagonist of its meetings with developers. And even more so if the rumored deal with OpenAI is confirmed. But there will be more, as well as applications at hand, always important in the security section.

Apple passwords

According to Bloomberg, Apple will literally call the new service ‘Passwords’, while maintaining the use of simple names. It will allow users to quickly log in to websites and devices, generate complex passwords and store them in a secure management application. The app will also allow users to import passwords from third-party services.

other functions They include the ability to list user credentials and categorize them by service type (ie banking, streaming, social media, etc.). Also, the ability to replace manual password entry with Face ID and Touch ID and automatically fill them in when credentials are required. Judging by the feature set, Passwords will be positioned to compete with commercial or other free and open source password management apps that exist and are fantastic.

Of course, considering that the service would be owned and operated by Apple, the service will have deep integration into its own platforms iOS, iPadOS and MacOS. The Cupertino firm doesn’t have the same history of security breaches as its competitors, so it should be a compelling alternative for many users. It helps that the app works with iCloud Keychain, Apple’s existing service for storing and syncing passwords across devices.

Apple passwords are expected to be free and is available on native systems such as iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and MacOS 15, but according to Bloomberg it would work on others such as Windows. We should hear official details during Apple’s WWDC 2024 keynote on Monday.
