In New Zealand, a huge tree with several trunks that visually resemble legs was discovered, so it was called the “walking tree”. This 30-meter-tall plant giant looks motionless, even though it looks like it’s moving in the picture.
Its roots and long branches establish an association with the Ents, mythical tree-like creatures that guard the forests in the works of The Lord of the Rings.
This is a rare species of Metrosideros Robusta that begins its life in the crowns of mature trees and gradually grows roots, reaching the soil and starting an independent life.
The lone tree is located in a large park near a cemetery on the South Island, where a forest was logged nearly 150 years ago.
The age of this surviving specimen has not yet been determined, but it is known that representatives of this species can live up to 1000 years. The height of the tree is 32 meters, which is equivalent to a seven-storey building. Source
