National Migration Service (SNM) Panama informed deportation Argentine businessman Carlos Ahumada in Paraguay.

He added that Ahumada also has Mexican citizenship and was carrying an expired Mexican passport at the time of the inspection.

The SNM of Panama informed Mexico’s Interpol of the Argentine national’s status and in turn requested information as to whether they maintained an interest in him for the purpose of extraditing him, but no response was received.

“After 24 hours and without receiving a response from the competent authority to the citizen’s request, the corresponding return is carried out to Asuncion (Paraguay”), he concluded.

What is Carlos Ahumada accused of?

The Argentine businessman has two arrest warrants in Mexico: one from general jurisdiction and the other from federal jurisdiction.

The first was issued in 2007 for the crime of fraud and the second in 2019 for alleged tax fraud amounting to P1 million, 647 thousand, 236 due to non-payment of income tax (ISR) in 2012.

In August 2020, the National Criminal and Federal Correctional Court No. 9 of Buenos Aires refused to extradite Ahumada to Mexico on tax fraud charges.
