It’s no secret that we live in an era where subscription-based services and applications are increasingly available. This is especially true if we talk about TV series, movies and other programs. There are so many subscription streaming services these days that most of us are forced to choose which one we want to keep and say goodbye to the rest.
When it comes to streaming TV series and movies, I maintain active subscriptions to all three services, but YouTube Premium plays in another category due to the type of content it offers. For a long time I refused to pay for the service, trying to avoid it as much as I could, but a few months ago I decided to try it and it was one sentence: after trying Premium, there was no turning back. Now, music is perhaps one of the most important services of my daily life and entertainment, and one of the responsible ones for this.
Saying goodbye to ads is before and after
For the most obvious reason, stopping watching ads on YouTube is just a before and after for the experience of enjoying the platform. In this case, YouTube practically encourages us to pay Premium, because in my case, I never thought of using dubious applications that “remove” ads when using YouTube on mobile devices, because in many cases they can pose unnecessary security risks. device.
The truth is that YouTube is full of ads that show us both when we start watching a video and in the middle of playback or whenever the platform wants. It’s a bit of an aggressive ad, and I understand, I know, that the creators of the videos that entertain me so much expect reward for their efforts, but still, the number of ads often feels excessive.
With YouTube Premium, those ads go away, and considering the amount of usage I put into the platform and the amount of content I stream and stream at home every day, the truth is that the more convenient experience is worth it. However, if we leave the ads aside, the other advantages that YouTube Premium offers make it even more valuable for me, especially as a music lover.
Music and everything else: I said goodbye to Spotify with YouTube Premium
Yes, I pay for YouTube Premium now, but instead of adding an additional subscription to my monthly expenses, Premium has actually replaced another subscription: Spotify.
Many people seem to forget or fail to take into account that YouTube Premium not only eliminates ads from the platform, but also offers access to YouTube Music, an extremely complete music streaming service whose catalog includes not only albums and songs from our favorite artists. , but it also allows you to listen to any song available on YouTube in audio form, often even if it’s not an official release. This is one of the biggest advantages of YouTube Music over Spotify.
One of the features I used most on Spotify was downloading songs and playlists to my Wear OS smartwatch so I didn’t have to carry my phone with me when going for a run or workout, and luckily this functionality is also available in the YouTube Music app. Use OS, so it didn’t make sense to pay for both services, considering that both the catalog and my favorite features are also available on the YouTube music service. Goodbye Spotify, hello YouTube Music.
To this we can also add very useful YouTube Premium functions, such as the ability to download videos to watch without an internet connection, watch videos in picture-in-picture mode and even turn off the screen to just listen to the video. However, there are also tricks that can be used for this without installing anything or paying Premium.
In general, the issue of subscription is a very personal matter; It depends on each person’s preferences, the type of content they consume, and of course, how much we are willing to pay. I’ve said goodbye to many streaming services in the past months; It doesn’t make sense to me to pay for 6 or 7 platforms between TV series, movies and music. YouTube Premium has become one of the few subscriptions I pay for each month, offering access to the music service and also improving my experience watching videos on the platform, and I don’t see any return. back.
