11 cities at risk of drinking water shortage have been announced

Mexico City, the capital of Mexico and one of the largest metropolises in the world, is on the brink of disaster. Experts warn that there may be a serious drinking water shortage in the region by the end of June, leaving 8.8 million people without water.

According to experts from the World Natural Resources Institute, Mexico City is not the first city to experience a “water” crisis and it will not be the last. Due to global warming, the natural circulation of water in the atmosphere is disrupted, resulting in abnormally low rainfall and longer drought periods.

In the near future, drinking water shortages may occur in the following cities, as well as Mexico City:

  • Delhi (India), population 33 million;
  • Beijing (China), with a population of 21.5 million;
  • Lahore (Pakistan), with a population of 14 million;
  • Jakarta (Indonesia) with a population of 10.6 million;
  • Cairo (Egypt) with a population of 9.5 million;
  • Bogota (Colombia), with a population of 7.1 million;
  • Johannesburg (South Africa), with a population of 5.5 million;
  • Al Kuwait (Kuwait), with a population of 3.3 million;
  • Beirut (Lebanon), with a population of 2.4 million;
  • Muscat (Oman) with a population of 1.7 million;
  • Limassol (Cyprus) with a population of 235 thousand.
