Yesterday, Microsoft held the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, an annual event that has become the most important of the year. display case for displaying games, hardware, peripherals or accessories gaming ecosystem of the company.
A few hours ago we checked the hardware section and the three consoles that Microsoft will launch for the 2024 Christmas campaign. These are variants of the current Xbox Series X and S systems, not the new generation that was also discussed at the event. Microsoft management confirmed that it did “we are working hard on the new generation”but before that they saw fit to update the current offer. Of course there were also games, many games.
Xbox Games Showcase 2024: featured games
Activision Blizzard Group’s recent acquisition of King, the largest corporate buyout operation in video game history, allowed Microsoft to add a staggering catalog of games and for them to include them in their own services, like Game Pass, which we think (at this rate) will have no competition in game subscription services. Many of these titles, added to everything the software giant already had, were announced in this Xbox Games Showcase 2024, from which we leave you with trailers for the ones we think are the most important.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
The new installment of the first-person shooter, developed by Treyarch and Raven Software and published by Activision, and certainly Microsoft’s most important franchise, will be available on October 25 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC. On day one, you’ll be able to play it on select Xbox Game Pass plans (Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass PC, Game Pass Console).
Doom: The Dark Ages
The next part of the shooter between shooters that we present to you in this announcement is impressive. The single-player action game will be a prequel to DOOM (2016’s modern reboot) and its sequel, the no less spectacular DOOM Eternal, set in medieval dark fantasy settings. It will arrive on PC, Xbox and PlayStation 5 sometime in 2025. Of course, like the others on this list, it will be available from the first minute on Xbox Game Pass.
Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred
Blizzard’s first action RPG expansion. It will launch a new class (Spirit Incarnate), a new campaign and a new area in the Nahantu jungle region where new dungeons, strongholds and enemies await with the great Mephisto at the helm, along with a new co-op PvE activity. The expansion will introduce the use of mercenaries and pets and will offer changes to all other features of the game. It will be available from October 8 on all supported platforms, including Steam. It won’t be in Game Pass though. You will have to allow your pockets, because even though it is an extension, it is not cheap at all, at least 40 euros. The movies are, like all Blizzards, amazing.
Gears of War E-Day
Developed by The Coalition, the action-adventure third-person shooter heroes return home to face a new nightmare: the Locust Horde. These subterranean monsters, grotesque and implacable, emerge from below and besiege humanity itself. It will use Unreal Engine 5 and the trailer was shown in 4K and 30 FPS with 5.1 stereo sound. Very good looking.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
The next installment of Microsoft’s great simulator, “the most ambitious consumer flight simulator ever made”, with the largest, most diverse and detailed fleet of aircraft, the most complete representation of airports and air traffic “and the most visually impressive interpretation of Earth ever created.” We believe it. It will launch for PC and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, and will be available with Game Pass from the start.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard
BioWare and Electronic Arts have revealed a new trailer where we meet their team of seven companions, each with their own rich story to discover and shape. Expanding on Dragon Age stories, worlds, and characters from previous games, nshows us a new trailer a team of seven colleagues, each with their own rich history to explore and shape.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows
An adventure, stealth and action saga that takes the single-player role-playing game to feudal Japan, it introduces us to two protagonists, with most of the game allowing you to switch between the two and use their different play styles. It is scheduled to launch on November 15 on PC (Ubisoft Store and Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 consoles, and Mac with Apple Silicon. It will also be available on the Amazon Luna platform and through the Ubisoft Plus Premium subscription.
Age of Mythology: Retold
World’s Edge, the studio behind the Age of Empires franchise, has revealed the first images of a game that will combine the best elements of the popular Age of Mythology (2002) with modern real-time strategy design, visuals and gameplay. It will be available on September 4, 2024, and will be the first title in the Age of Empires franchise to be released on both PC and consoles at the same time.
Metal Gear Solid ฮ: Snake Eater
Metal Gear Solid ฮ: Snake Eater creates a deeply immersive world with enhanced visuals and sounds, utilizing the full potential of Unreal Engine 5 while keeping the controls and voice lines inherited from the original title intact. The new camera and third-person controls offer players an intuitive introduction to the beginning of the Metal Gear Solid saga as they step into Snake’s shoes in the high-stakes espionage thriller.
World of Warcraft: The War Within
The tenth expansion for Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft and the opening chapter of the most ambitious story arc in the game’s nearly 20-year history, The War Within, launches on August 26. This upcoming expansion, the first of three for The Worldsoul Saga, immerses you in the mythology of World of Warcraft and weaves together narrative threads from the past two decades.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
Become a famous archaeologist and face sinister forces in the fight to uncover the truth behind one of the greatest mysteries. The trailer shows off new gameplay and a scene from a key moment in the game. An intercepted message sends Indy and Gina to the Himalayas, where their treacherous journey through the mountains leads them to a surprising discovery. It will be available for Xbox Series X|S and PC and more on Game Pass from day one.
We’ll leave it at that, but you’ve got more, much more announcements and trailers on Xbox’s official Xbox Games Showcase 2024 page. Enjoy them!
