Seeing Sam Altman walking through Apple Park can only mean one thing: The age of artificial intelligence at Apple has arrived. The company recently made iOS 18 official, and it’s doing so with a major deal with OpenAI. Something that structures a new era for Apple, in its own terminology for artificial intelligence: ‘Apple Intelligence’.
Artificial intelligence will take the leading role (we will have to wait for the end of the presentation), but there will also be changes in native applications and design. These are all new features of Apple’s new operating system; It is a system that can be installed in the beta phase if you are not afraid of instability on your main device.
Let’s talk about customization
The first innovation Apple told us about is about personalization. Icons and widgets gain a second life. Finally, we can place the icons wherever we want.including the bottom of the screen.
The icons themselves are getting dark mode, but it doesn’t end there: we can change the color of the icons ourselves. Yes, it’s exactly the same as on Android and its custom themes.
The control center is also evolving, with the swipe gesture allowing us to access new access from within the control center itself. In other words: when we scroll down we now have multiple pages.
App improvements
Regarding security, iOS 18 will allow you to block and hide apps. Using FaceID we can have applications hidden in a folder on the desktop, which can only be unlocked using the biometric system.
There are also improvements to native apps like Messages, introducing new text effects and more emoji possibilities. Regarding this application, iPhones compatible with satellite connection will be able to use iMessage without needing to connect to the mobile network.
The Mail application has also improved and now shows categories in a different way. Main, transactions, news and promotions are all accessible at the top of the app. All emails will be automatically categorized more efficiently than the current app.
Tap to Cash is one of the new features of iOS 18 and allows you to pay a person using Apple Pay. To send money from one, it will be enough to bring our iPhone closer to the other (activating this option and double-checking with the power button, like any payment with Apple Pay). purse another.
Game mode is also finally coming to iPhone, but not many details were given about it during the presentation.
The Photos app is evolving at the enterprise level. Apple assures us that we are facing the biggest redesign in its history, with a major change to make the interface more accessible. We will now be able to use new subviews to search for photos by month or year, and new categories to search for photos more easily.
Travel sections, collections, improvements in grouping contacts (if we have photos with different people)…
It’s developing…
