What’s up
- The new VisionOS 2 brings changes to the gesture system to make it easier to access quick actions.
- The Photos app can automatically synthesize spatial photos from your 2D photo library.
- Travel Mode will now also work on trains.
- For the first time, Vision Pro can communicate with mice and keyboards. For example, VisionOS 2 can recognize and display the Magic Keyboard or MacBook when you enter an environment. Previously full immersion meant you couldn’t see the keyboard while typing.
When you’re inside your environment, VisionOS 2 recognizes and displays your Magic Keyboard or MacBook; so you can keep writing wherever you are, on the beach, in the mountains, or even on the moon.
– company notes.
- Improved guest user mode.
- There are also new features in many important system applications such as Safari, TV and Mindfulness.
- Another notable innovation for users will be the new generation virtual display, Mac Virtual Display. Now supports larger virtual displays with higher resolution and ultrawide display expandability. Mac renders images in a special new way to reduce visible compression artifacts.
Apple is also working with other companies like Canon to provide more spatial video capture equipment, and will update a number of developer APIs, including TableTopKit, to help developers create games and entertainment faster.
Other minor updates include the ability to now reposition your Vision Pro’s home screen by pinching and holding. iPad apps in VisionOS can be moved from the Compatible Apps folder and placed anywhere on the home screen. Improvements have been made to watching videos in Safari. Here’s Apple’s description of it: “Enjoy watching videos in Safari in any environment, on a truly massive screen. A stunning cinematic viewing experience with beautiful new shine and reflection on the screen.”
The first beta version of VisionOS 2 is already available to testers, and the full version of the update will be released for everyone in the fall.
