Company SVI Engineering Rapid response vehicle based on Volkswagen presented from South Africa Golf GTI. The hatchback looks like an ordinary eighth-generation Golf GTI, but there is a nuance: it is an armored car. 3.5 mm thick steel plates and bulletproof glass are installed here. More powerful cars are usually chosen for booking – frame SUVs, for example, but for some reason SVI Engineering chose Golf.
Thick steel was used in the doors, pillars, roof and rear compartment. The second is a compromise solution: it is easier to make a partition than to reserve the back door. Engine compartment components also received additional protection. The hull reservation level is B4+: This Golf can withstand attacks from pistols and rifles with a caliber of up to 7.62×39 mm. Bulletproof glass can stop four bullets from an AK-47 hitting a 300mm square.
Naturally, the reservation was reflected in the weight of the car: it increased to 1755 kg (plus about 340 kg). So you can’t rely on the starting dynamics of the Golf GTI. Of course, SVI Engineering experts also had to improve the suspension.
The company is ready for transformation Golf GTI or an all-wheel-drive Golf R for an armored vehicle in three months. The cost of the conversion is $35,000 and the car itself is not included.
