Fortnite has been regularly hosting, for several years now, concerts with big stars of the music world. The first event of this kind took place in 2019, Travis Scott in a performance that connected around 12 million users. A few months later, we could also see top DJs like Deadmau5 and Steve Aoki, and during the summer of 2020 it was one of the current queens of pop, Ariana Grande, who connected millions of users for around 15 minutes in five performances, which took place in the most popular battle arena for years.
Since, We’ve seen The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, Marshmello and Eminem walk through this virtual stage, a sign that those responsible for Fortnite won’t take on a particular genre of music. On the contrary, they display an eclecticism that I think many, including myself, appreciate. And it’s also a pretty smart decision from a business point of view, because covering more genres and styles will make your events interesting to more people.
Well, today we already know that the spectrum is expanding again and it’s doing so with a legendary band that will undoubtedly attract a lot of people to the arena, even if it’s just for a concert. And as confirmed by Epic Games, Metallica will be performing (with multiple acts) at key Fortnite Season 4 events. Six screenings, each approximately 30 minutes long, will take place on June 22 and 23.
As always with Fortnite concerts, Attendance at the Metallica show will be completely free, it can be expected that the onslaught will be massive, and therefore it is advisable to approach the arena well in advance. Several festival-related activities will also take place during these days, allowing players to earn items and gestures from the band’s in-game avatars, as well as their LEGO versions.
Of course, unlike going to a concert, Some Fortnite experience will be a basic requirement to participate in some of these activities. For example, in order to participate in the Metallica Cup, it will be necessary to have an account at level 15 or higher with no restrictions and, among other things, to have two-step verification activated. The good news is that if you’re a metalhead but have never played Fortnite in your life, you still have 10 days to try to meet these requirements. Of course, if you’ve never played it, you’ll probably want to see the concert and that’s it, because the digital assets you can get are exclusive to the game.
Hopefully, though, the band won’t play again on air like we already saw at BlizzCon 2021.
