“Our survival hung on a very fragile thread”: Chomsky with Aristegui
Noam Chomsky has established that “there are many problems, some of them extraordinary and existential, related to the very survival of organized human life. One is unrelenting climate change, which is leading directly to environmental disaster unless significant, urgent action is taken to reduce these dangers we face.
In an interview with Carmen Aristegui for Aristegui CNN -held in November 2017 – expressed regret that “the most important and powerful country refuses to participate in these efforts (against climate change)” and does not act decisively; “This is a serious threat that particularly affects Mexico because it is so close and will suffer greatly from the consequences.”
He said the threat was melting glaciers, which would release ancient bacteria to which “we have no immunity.”
Secondly, the activist expressed the “constant threat of nuclear war.” “We now have 70 years in which we have somehow survived the existence of nuclear weapons since 1953.”
“It has become clear that the human mind has developed means by which we can quickly self-destruct.
“It’s just that our survival was hanging on a very fragile and thin thread, since there were repeated cases when disaster was too close, it is almost a miracle that we survived, since the threats are becoming more and more acute,” he said. .
