Company SAMSUNG demonstrated the first color television with an electronic ink screen (E Ink). The innovation was exhibited at the InfoComm exhibition in Los Angeles, USA. The device is designed to be used as an information panel in offices, stores and other indoor and outdoor spaces.
Samsung’s Color E-Paper TV has a diagonal size of 32 inches, supports QHD resolution and can display 60 thousand colors. Its thickness is only 17.9 mm and its weight without batteries is 2.9 kg. The manufacturer does not specify battery capacity and battery life. However, when displaying a static image, the E Ink screen does not consume battery power. The latter is consumed only when the content displayed on the screen changes, so such a battery-powered TV can work for a very long time.
The content itself can be stored in the device’s 8 GB internal memory or downloaded via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or external media – for this, Color E-Paper TV is equipped with two USB-C ports (one is used for charging, the other for data transfer).
The TV has an easily replaceable frame and is VESA 200×200 compatible for bracket mounting. Samsung plans to release a color electronic ink TV with a dedicated app to control the display of content on the screen.
