Chromebooks with ChromeOS have been a success mainly in the education sector, but it seems that Google needs to do something more for them to reach the general public. To increase the use and success of these computers, the search giant has a clear path forward: introduce more Android components in ChromeOS and bet on artificial intelligencewhat has become so popular and let’s see if it is not a bubble that has been inflated too quickly.
It’s no secret that Google wants to improve the integration of Android into ChromeOS, and what’s more, the various steps it’s taking in this regard do not close the door to a possible connection of the two systems in the future. In a post published on the official Chromium blog, the Mountain View giant said that “it takes over parts of the Android suite such as the Android Linux kernel and frameworks Android as part of the base ChromeOS“. Another thing that’s here is the unification of the Bluetooth stacks of both systems, a process that started with version 122 of the system for Chromebook devices.
Integration between ChromeOS and Android is by no means new, as the former has been able to run apps compiled for the latter for years. On the other hand, Google is known to have developed software that will convert an Android phone to a PC under ChromeOS, which suggests that the connection between the two systems is open, at least apparently.

Another point that seems to support the improvement of Android integration in ChromeOS is artificial intelligenceand according to Google, “incorporating Android-based technology into ChromeOS will allow us to accelerate the pace of AI innovation at the core of ChromeOS, simplify engineering efforts, and help various devices such as phones and accessories “work better with Chromebooks. .” Other aspects we want to improve are security, appearance to make it uniform and administration options for users, companies and schools.
It doesn’t take a genius to guess that Google is interested in offering a consistent and as homogeneous ecosystem between ChromeOS and Android as possible, and if users can have the same apps here, so much the better. In addition to the integration between the two operating systems, there are also plans by the company to make ChromeOS a serious competitor for Windows and macOS. We have things like Steam, whose app is apparently a port of the version available for Linux, so on paper there would be heavy use of Proton to run video games compiled for Windows.
