The first versions of Android 15 are already out and give us a glimpse of the exciting features and improvements coming to our devices. But only a stable build promises to unleash the full power of the next version of Android.

Google is following a three-step strategy to release the Android operating system, and this also applies to Android 15. First we have preview versions for developers, then we have other public betas, and finally the stable version is available to everyone.

Google has already released the Android 15 timeline and it looks very similar to Android 13 and Android 14. Let’s take a deeper look at the official timeline to find out when the stable build will be released to the public.

Android 15 release timeline

The first phase, the developer preview, began on February 16, 2024, when we got our first official look at Android 15. The second build arrived the following month and revealed more details about the new operating system.

These developer previews are aimed at developers as they can be very unstable and contain many broken features.

After two development releases, Google announced the first beta in April, allowing everyone to try new features and changes before the official release. Many beta versions have already been released; the latest of which is Beta 2.2, which launched on June 3.

According to the official calendar, we will have Android 15 Beta 3 this month and Beta 4 in July-August. There will be a few additional betas in between. With beta version 4 released, the new operating system is approaching final testing for the official release.

Google is not announcing the stable release month of the upcoming operating system. However, Android 15 is likely to follow last year’s model, as reports suggest that Android 15 could launch alongside the Pixel 9 series in October.

So the official announcement is a few months away. However, smartphone brands such as OnePlus, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and Realme provide access to the Android 15 beta version on some devices. Android 15 Release: What to Expect?

Google Pixels are usually the first device to receive the latest Android OS update. In fact, they get an update as soon as a stable build is announced.

Other smartphone brands like Realme, Samsung, Vivo, Oppo and OnePlus need extra time to polish their coatings so that it can run smoothly with the latest operating system. This can take from a few days to weeks. Many are already offering Android 15 beta for select devices. However, the stable structure will most likely begin to spread around November. As always, new flagship phones will be the first to get the latest operating system, followed by mid-range and budget devices.

Android 15 features

1. Archiving applications: It allows you to decompress applications to save memory while preserving user data. Until now, this feature was limited to apps installed from the Play Store, but Android 15 integrates this feature at the operating system level, allowing you to archive/restore all apps, including those installed outside the Play Store.

2. Improved health connectivity: The new operating system includes new types of data about fitness, nutrition and more. Beta 2 includes skin temperature and training plans as additional data types.

3. Private area: It protects your sensitive files and applications with an extra layer of security. This is similar to the secure folder on Samsung phones. This new feature creates a separate area hidden from the normal area.

4. Partial screen sharing: Another useful feature in Android 15 that allows you to share or record a single app instead of the entire screen.

5. Charging notifications: This new feature reduces the volume, preventing users from being overwhelmed by repeated notifications from the same application.

6. Program pairs: Android 15 will allow users to save their favorite split-screen combinations for faster access. A shortcut will be created on the home screen to instantly open both apps in split-screen mode.
