And luckily, it’s something that both Google and Apple added to their Android and iOS operating systems a while back. It is also present in laptops, but in this article we will focus on the ecosystem of mobile phones and their operating systems.

The smart charging function is responsible for the fact that when you plug your smartphone into the charger, if you have fixed habits (e.g. charging before going to bed), a message will appear that it says charging will end at a certain time, probably the one you have set for your alarm. Some devices display this indication, while others do not, but this setting still occurs.

Therefore, in general, It is best to always have smart charging on, because in this case we will be concerned about the health of the battery, which will degrade longer this way, which will inevitably happen when charging and discharging cycles are added. And in this respect, the more regular we are, the better result this protection will offer us.

Now there are specific circumstances, generally specific, where smart charging can be a problem and facing the same we will have to disable it to complete the loading at the fastest possible speed. For example, if you go to bed knowing that a call in the middle of the night might interrupt your sleep and leave you, you probably want to keep your battery fully charged. The good news is that making this adjustment is very simple.

Disable smart charging in Android 14

For this example we will use Android 14 on the Google Pixel 8 Pro As you already know, the version of the operating system that we find on the Pixel devices is commonly considered the cleanest because unlike the layers. the customizations added by other manufacturers, in this case, we find only as an addition to the functions of the company’s devices, not additional customizations.

Therefore, to deactivate smart charging, we will have to go to Settings, click on Batteries, tap on “Smart Charging” and in the section that appears, deactivate this function. That way, when you charge your phone, the process will be done as quickly as possible.

Disable Smart Charging in iOS 17

Unlike what happens with the Android ecosystem, with iOS 17 the process is 100% similar on all devices (unless you used jailbreak modify the interface of the operating system).

The steps are just as simple. Tap Settings, scroll down the menu until you find and press the Battery button, then tap “Battery and charging status” and in the section that appears, disable “Optimized charging.” This way, the phone will charge at maximum speed when you connect it to the charger.
