Francia Marquez's father and nephew survived the attack

Sigifredo Marquez Trujillo, father of the Vice President of Colombia. France Marquesescaped unharmed after an attack on the car he was driving through the countryside of the municipality of Hamundi, in the Colombian department of Valle del Cauca.

The attack happened at 3pm on Sunday when a car was hit four times.

“The vice president’s father was traveling accompanied by a minor. “Both people were uninjured at the Robles Hamundi police station,” police said.

The vice president herself clarified that the minor is her nephew and that they were traveling with two guards:

According to the Colombian newspaper El Tiempo, the vice president’s father is in good condition, although he is frightened by what happened.

The attack came a day after the “Security Caravans” strategy was launched in Hamundi, with more than a hundred police and special forces soldiers and No. 8 “Battle of Pichincha” Infantry Battalion deployed in the area.

The Jaime Martinez Front, a dissident guerrilla group of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), operates in this region.

Municipal authorities reported that guerrillas were taking children under nine years of age to rural areas to recruit them.
