“I first heard the news in the media this morning and contacted the army to tell them this is unacceptable.”

The Prime Minister acknowledged that there is not always a consistent consensus with the army. “To end Hamas, I had to make decisions that were not always made by the military,” he said.

Military sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, explained to Israeli Channel 13 that this measure is intended “strengthen” Israel’s position in the International Court of Justicewho brought a case against the Israeli state, before remembering that the army is capable of taking such measures unilaterally.

“The general’s approval is sufficient for this,” they assured, and although they admitted that “everything connected with the publication of the announcement” was “poorly” carried out, they insisted that such a pause “does not require approval.” at the political level.”

This nuance did not stop the two main ultranationalist leaders of the Israeli government, Ministers of National Security and Finance Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, After this statement they became furious.

Smotrich also protested against this “tactical pause” because he understood that this decision “puts Israel’s international legitimacy above victory in Gaza” and “allows Hamas to prolong the war.”

Smotrich also accused the Army General Staff of living “totally out of touch” with the reality faced by fighting forces in the Gaza Strip when it announced the decision after eight soldiers were killed in action.
